Accounting & Compliance Lead

Position Overview

The Accounting & Compliance Lead is a key leadership role within Equipt, responsible for overseeing financial accuracy, compliance integrity, and payroll execution across a growing network of ministry partners. This individual will serve as both a strategic leader and a hands-on operator—ensuring excellence in financial systems while supporting the mission of churches and ministries across the nation.

This role requires a self-starter who is highly motivated, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently while contributing meaningfully within a collaborative team environment.

Key Responsibilities

 Accounting & Financial Oversight

·       Lead day-to-day accounting operations across multiple ministry partners

·       Supervise and support the Accounting Assistant in daily workflows and execution

·       Collaborate with our external accounting firm to ensure accuracy and alignment in financial processes

·       Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, year-end)

·       Maintain and review general ledger activity within QuickBooks Online

·       Support budget development and financial analysis for partners

Compliance & Regulatory Management

·       Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations

·       Oversee nonprofit compliance requirements (including filings, registrations, and reporting)

·       Oversee multi-state compliance, including state registrations, annual filings, and new state setup as needed

·       Research and interpret state-specific requirements to ensure proper compliance across all operating regions

·       Maintain strong internal controls and audit readiness across all entities

·       Monitor and enforce best practices in financial governance and accountability

Payroll & Benefits Administration

·       Manage payroll processing and accuracy (including clergy-specific considerations)

·       Ensure compliance with payroll tax regulations and reporting requirements

·       Coordinate with benefits providers and ensure proper financial handling

Partner Support & Communication

·       Serve as a primary financial resource for ministry partners

·       Provide clear, timely communication and guidance on financial matters

·       Assist partners in understanding reports, budgets, and financial processes

·       Deliver high-level support with a service-minded, ministry-focused approach

Team Collaboration & Leadership

·       Work closely with the Director of Operations to support organizational goals

·       Help develop and refine internal systems, SOPs, and workflows

·       Contribute to a culture of excellence, ownership, and continuous improvement

·       Support and mentor team members as needed


Qualifications

Required

·       Strong knowledge of accounting principles and financial reporting

·       Experience with payroll systems and compliance requirements

·       Understanding of nonprofit financial and compliance structures

·       High level of attention to detail and organizational discipline

·       Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities

·       Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills

 

Preferred

·       Experience supporting churches or nonprofit ministries

·       Familiarity with multi-entity or class-based accounting environments

·       Experience with tools such as QuickBooks, Basecamp, Ramp, Gusto, and Planning Center
